The HCAD website is very picky about how you type names. If you are doing a harris county property tax search by owner, remember the "No Comma" rule. Type the last name, then a space, then the first letter of the first name. For example, do not type "Smith, John." Type "Smith J" instead.

In Harris County, there are a few ways to pay your bill. The Tax Assessor-Collector, Annette Ramirez, runs this office. You can pay online, by phone, by mail, or in person.

If you want to mail a check, send it to P.O. Box 4622, Houston, TX 77210-4622. Always write your account number on the check!
If you want to pay in person, there are over 20 offices. You can find them in Downtown Houston, Tomball, Humble, and Baytown. These offices are closed on Wednesdays. Their normal hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Time is very important. In Texas, the tax year is from January 1 to December 31. Bills are usually sent in October.
The most important date is January 31st. This is the last day to pay without a late fee. On February 1st, your account is "late," and the county adds extra costs.
